Elevated employee engagement is something we are continually striving for here at Assurance. It's more than just cultural. In fact, it's extremely pragmatic. Nearly every scientific study we've seen over the past 20 years has demonstrated engaged workforces are:
- More productive
- More profitable
- Less prone to absenteeism
- Less likely to leave
- Less likely to be involved in on-the-job accidents

The list goes on and includes my personal favorite: “less likely to be a source of employee theft”. Importantly, engaged workforces also experience growth rates that are more than 2.5 times their peers. You can absolutely say that engaged employees have a direct correlation to efficiency and profit. But if all this is true and all business leaders inherently know this, then why do so many companies struggle when it comes to engagement?
Trust, I believe, is the #1 factor in building a great workplace. From employees to managers, managers to employees, employees to employees and so on, trust is the essential ingredient. Where trust exists, great things can happen. And engagement doesn’t just mean happy. Here are 10 qualities of engaged employees.
- Enjoy the place they work
- Enjoy the job they do
- Proud to tell people about their employer
- Has a desire to help their employer improve
- Has a desire to help their fellow employees succeed
- Has a career goal and a plan to get there
- Know where to internally get help
- Know what their company does or makes
- Know how their job impacts a customer
- Know how everyone’s job impacts a customer
