For any waste and recycling or manufacturing company, moving a large amount of goods from one facility to the next is part of your daily activity. This is especially true for recycling companies, where annual forklift certification trainings are mandatory.
Employers are responsible for implementing a training program and ensuring trained drivers who’ve successfully completed the program are allowed to operate powered industrial trucks. Evaluation of each operator must be conducted during the initial training, at least once every three years and after refresher training. The training and evaluation may be conducted by the employer, if qualified, or an outside training organization.
Training must combine both formal and practical tactics – lecture and video; demonstration - and include an evaluation of performance in the workplace. All training must be conducted by the employer, another employee or other qualified person with necessary knowledge.
Finally, the employer must certify that each operator has been trained and evaluated as required by the standard. Certifications must include the name of the operator, the date of training, date of evaluation and the identity of the person performing the training or evaluation.
Staying compliant with safety standards is necessary for mitigating risk. If you still have questions, contact an ‘A’ Team member today and get educated.
