I recently came across a MetLife study that touched on current employee benefit trends in the U.S. It was interesting to sift through the data and drill down what I felt was useful and pertinent. In perusing the info, I came across some pretty compelling information worth sharing.
It turns out, as I think we always knew, employees have a very real and clear preference as to how they want to learn about benefits; specifically their benefits. Communication of benefits is more effective when employers approach benefit education and communication using a handful of preferred methods and channels. Having this information in our back pocket can make us better equipped to educate employees about their benefits throughout the year. Knowing is half the battle. Creating a strategy to put this information into action is the next step. Through employee meetings, surveys, focus groups, etc., it’s possible to understand how your employee population learns best. It’s definitely worth exploring. After all, you’re communicating for a reason. It’s time the message is actually heard.
