Schaumburg, IL (May 20, 2013) - On Saturday, May 11, Assurance employees and their family members came together at Kimball Hill Park in Rolling Meadows, Illinois to "Step Up and ACT”. The event, which featured raffle prizes, announcements, outdoor games, music and food, served a dual purpose as it's both a kick off to the company's charitable endeavors for the year, as well as a fundraiser itself.
Assurance Caring Together (ACT) foundation is a volunteer committee of employees who coordinate the company's charitable efforts. Each year, ACT supports a number of nonprofit organizations through monetary and volunteer efforts.
At the Step Up and ACT event, ACT chairperson Heather Hodgerson and vice chairperson Eileen Bergan announced the 14 nonprofit organizations that will receive assistance in the form of labor hours from Assurance employees. To ensure participation, Assurance provides its employees with a paid day off to volunteer for one of the deserving organizations. The duo also read off 18 additional nonprofit partners that will receive monetary donations throughout the year from Assurance. Additionally, 25 raffles were conducted raising $9,000 for student scholarships and two hundred pounds of food/non-perishable items for Shelter, Inc.
"The Step Up and ACT event was a great way for Assurance employees and their families to gather in support of local charities and higher education institutions,” noted Hodgerson. She continued, "This event served as a kickoff to our employee volunteer opportunities for 2013, in which we hope to add onto our more than 12,600 hours of community service.”
The monetary partners for 2013 include: 100% Foundation, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Bucks for Burn Camp, Cancer Support Center, CASA of DuPage County, Countryside Association, Kenneth Young Center, Horizons for the Blind, Kids Fit Foundation, Make Your Mark, Make A Wish MO Chapter, Mobile Care, National MS Society, PKD Foundation, Shelter, Inc., Thanks Jordan, Wings and Turning Point Autism Foundation.
