Schaumburg, IL (October 4, 2012) – On September 19, 2012, several Assurance employees spent the day away from the office in order to volunteer at A Safe Place in Waukegan, Illinois. The leading advocate for eliminating domestic violence in Northern Illinois, A Safe Place serves as both a crisis and transition center for affected families in the surrounding communities. While there, victims and their families are able to receive shelter, counseling and legal support.
During their time at A Safe Place, Assurance Caring Together (ACT) volunteers were able to transform two children's playrooms and one rec room for teens. Prior to their arrival, the rooms were unable to be properly utilized by the residents. The volunteers cleaned, organized and rearranged the rooms, making the spaces functional areas for playing, reading and homework completion. The volunteers also spent a portion of the day sorting through and categorizing ten boxes of donated clothing items.
"This was a great event, and I loved that we could see an immediate sense of accomplishment,” said Jackie Gould, Chief Operating Officer at Assurance. She continued, "I hope the kids and teenagers enjoy the new room arrangements and are able to put them to good use.”
Under the motto "We Can Be Heroes,” Assurance employees have donated over 10,500 labor hours in a seven year span through volunteer opportunities organized by ACT. A Safe Place is one of over 15 events scheduled for this year. To find more information about A Safe Place or volunteer opportunities, visit www.asafeplaceforhelp.org.
