Schaumburg, IL (July 23, 2013) - Assurance, an independent insurance brokerage with offices near Chicago and St. Louis, continued its commitment to giving on July 17, 2013, when several employees spent their work day volunteering with Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley. This is the first year Assurance volunteers have assisted the organization.

Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. Their mission is to build, rehab and preserve homes for qualifying Illinois families in Carpentersville, Elgin, St. Charles and the surrounding area. With the help of volunteers, the organization has already built 60 homes and is currently focused on rehabbing foreclosed or abandoned homes to revitalize the neighborhoods in which we work.

The volunteer opportunity is one of 15 similar events scheduled for 2013 where Assurance employees will donate their time to deserving nonprofit organizations. All volunteer days are organized by the company's employee-driven charitable foundation, Assurance Caring Together (ACT).

At the event, Assurance employees completed an inside demolition of a home in Carpentersville, Illinois. This included knocking down walls and ceilings, as well as ripping up floors and removing doors and trim. The team kept a positive spirit during the heat and was able to strip down five rooms to just wood beams. Additionally, the group removed all light fixtures and filled an entire dumpster by the end of the day.

"I loved working with my colleagues in a different capacity that could make a real difference for a local family," said Lisa Rich, Training Specialist at Assurance. She continued, "Prior to the event, I didn't fully understand the scope of Habitat for Humanity. It had such an impact on me, I now want to volunteer with the organization on weekends."

Under the motto "We Can Be Heroes”, Assurance employees have donated over 12,600 labor hours in a nine year span through volunteer opportunities organized by ACT.
