Schaumburg, Ill. (March 30, 2017) – Assurance, a Top 50 U.S. insurance brokerage, is proud to announce Jay Shelton will be heading the company’s new Executive Risk team, under its current Business Insurance division. Effective March 1, 2017, Shelton’s new title is senior vice president, executive risk. He was formally senior vice president, risk management at Assurance.

With almost two decades of risk management experience, Shelton will lead the Executive Risk team which focuses on both publicly traded and privately held directors & officers liability, errors & omissions, cyber, crime, employment practices, management liability and other executive management coverages. His main responsibility will be to identify and evaluate clients’ exposures and implement programs that will minimize risk. These preventative strategies will then be coupled with insurance coverages that can respond in the event of a claim.

“Given Jay’s accomplishments during his time at Assurance in risk management, having him take lead with
this initiative made absolute sense,” said Dan Klaras, president at Assurance. “I thank Jay for the hard work and heavy lifting he did in the area of risk services and more specifically cyber liability. I greatly appreciate his willingness to take on this new challenge.”

Shelton is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He earned a Master of Business Administration from Notre Dame University and Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Indiana University. He currently is a Professional Liability Underwriter Society (PLUS) member and holds the PLUS designation. He is working towards his Registered Professional Liability Underwriter (RPLU) designation. Shelton is a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers and Vice President of the Town of Highland Sanitary Board.

Michael Rivas, former safety director at Assurance, will take on Shelton’s previous responsibilities with a promotion to senior vice president, risk management services.
