Schaumburg, Ill. (May 7, 2015) – Assurance, a “Top 50” independent insurance brokerage, was named the #1 Best Place to Work in Illinois according to the Daily Herald Business Ledger. This is the sixth consecutive year Assurance finished in the top five. The company was honored in the medium employers (100-499 U.S. employees) category and joined on the list by seven clients.
The ranking was announced on Wednesday, May 6, at an awards ceremony held at the Oak Brook Hills Resort and Conference Center, where 74 companies were recognized as great Illinois workplaces.
This statewide survey and awards program was designed to identify, recognize and honor the best places of employment in Illinois, benefiting the state's economy, workforce and businesses. The rankings are determined through a two-part company assessment with an emphasis on employee engagement. The first part is workplace policies, practices and demographics (25 percent) and the second is through anonymous employee survey responses (75 percent). The top-rated companies receive statewide recognition and a special feature published in the June 22 edition of the Daily Herald Business Ledger.
Top-ranked Assurance prides itself on a unique corporate culture and high level of employee engagement. In fact, Peter Burke, President of Best Companies Group, noted that only 41 percent of employees nationwide would recommend their employer to a friend. The companies honored by the Daily Herald Business Ledger averaged 91 percent and Assurance finished with a 97 percent recommendation rate. Why are employees so highly engaged and willing to recommend Assurance? Here are just a few reasons:
- Each year, a company theme – usually set to a bad 80’s tune – sets the tone for various programs designed to increase employee engagement. The company has kept up morale and engagement through on-site massages, catered breakfast and luncheons, company happy hours and an annual Employee Appreciation Day.
- A number of wellness-focused initiatives are organized throughout the year, including free fitness classes, Assurance “Olympics” and even an accredited company 5K that gives every employee a bonus just for participating. In 2013, 93 percent of employees completed a 5K Challenge as part of a shared company goal.
- Assurance also has an extensive employee-run program for giving back to the community aptly titled Assurance Caring Together (ACT). Through ACT, employees have donated over 17,000 volunteer hours to deserving charity organizations and are also provided one paid day off each year to volunteer.
“We thank the Daily Herald Business Ledger for selecting Assurance as a Best Place to Work among so many great Illinois companies,” said Lisa Pinion, senior vice president, human resources. “We firmly believe happy, engaged employees influence every aspect of Assurance including our bottom line; our workplace programs and policies support this belief.”
Assurance’s commitment to employee engagement is apparent in the more than 75 awards received for corporate culture, including other #1 accolades from Business Insurance and The Chicago Tribune. The #1 ranking from the Daily Herald Business Ledger is a welcomed addition for 2015 and further exemplifies the power of employee engagement.
