SCHAUMBURG, IL (August 1, 2014) – Assurance, an independent insurance brokerage with offices near Chicago and St. Louis, continued its commitment to giving on July 24, 2014, when a number of employees spent their work day volunteering with Feed’em Soup (FES) Community Project. This is the second time Assurance volunteers assisted the organization this year.
FES is a registered 501(c)3 and meal provider service in DeKalb, Illinois. FES operates like a restaurant and all meals are cooked using the freshest ingredients for any person in the community regardless of their situation, background or ability to pay. In addition to a free, weekly meal, FES also offers an emergency food pantry, clothing closet and basic necessities. Children can attend a program designed to promote the importance of nutrition and healthy eating habits.
The volunteer opportunity is one of 18 similar events scheduled for 2014, where Assurance employees donate their time to deserving nonprofit organizations. All volunteer days are organized by the company’s employee-driven charitable foundation Assurance Caring Together (ACT).
At the event, Assurance volunteers cleaned the dining room and kitchen, as well as chopped carrots, beets and cabbages for the salad bar. The group then broke up packages of crackers for use in future meals. During the day, volunteers worked with Chef Moose to prepare ribs and de-seed jalapeno peppers. Then at the end, several Assurance employees washed and put away all the dishes. From the meal preparation, over 500 people could be served between lunchtime and two dinners that week.
“I really love this event and the direct impact it has on families in the community,” said Guy Jacobucci, Senior Vice President at Assurance. He continued, “I hope to keep the partnership going and engage more people in helping through volunteer work or monetary donations to FES.”
Under the motto “We Can Be Heroes”, Assurance employees have donated over 14,500 labor hours in a nine year span through volunteer opportunities organized by ACT.
