SCHAUMBURG, IL (July 20, 2014) – Assurance, an independent insurance brokerage with offices near Chicago and St. Louis, continued its commitment to giving on July 16, 2014, when a number of employees spent their work day volunteering with Animal House Shelter. This is the second year Assurance volunteers have assisted the organization.

Located in Huntley, Illinois, Animal House Shelter is a no-kill shelter for all breeds of cats and dogs. The organization rescues abused and/or neglected dogs and cats and rehabilitates them. About 98 percent of the dogs at Animal House Shelter are from high 'kill' shelters, pounds and various animal control facilities where they were listed as strays and scheduled to be euthanized. Since opening in June 2002, over 23,000 dogs and cats have been rescued, rehabilitated and placed into loving, forever homes.

The volunteer opportunity is one of 18 similar events scheduled for 2014, where Assurance employees donate their time to deserving nonprofit organizations. All volunteer days are organized by the company’s employee-driven charitable foundation Assurance Caring Together (ACT).

At the event, Assurance volunteers painted four areas of the shelter including the lobby, bathroom, hallway and kitten room, along with four benches and three pieces of furniture. The group also did some hedge trimming and weeding. During the afternoon, a few of the volunteers were able to help walk some of the dogs.

“You can really see the difference in the space; hopefully, the fresh paint provides a more inviting atmosphere for those at Animal House Shelter,” said Jordan Ready, Senior Program Manager at Assurance. She continued, “We’re glad to do some of the painting, so the employees can concentrate on helping the dogs and cats go to great forever homes.”

Under the motto “We Can Be Heroes”, Assurance employees have donated over 14,500 labor hours in a nine year span through volunteer opportunities organized by ACT.
