SCHAUMBURG, IL (June 16, 2014) – Assurance, an independent insurance brokerage with offices near Chicago and St. Louis, continued its commitment to giving on June 11, 2014, when a number of employees spent their work day volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, Northern Fox Valley. This is the second year Assurance volunteers have assisted the organization.

Habitat for Humanity, Northern Fox Valley is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. Their mission is to build, rehab and preserve homes for qualifying Illinois families in Carpentersville, Elgin, St. Charles and the surrounding area. With the help of volunteers, the organization has already built 60 homes and is currently focused on rehabbing foreclosed or abandoned homes to revitalize the neighborhoods in which we live and work.

The volunteer opportunity is one of 18 similar events scheduled for 2014, where Assurance employees will donate their time to deserving nonprofit organizations. All volunteer days are organized by the company’s employee-driven charitable foundation Assurance Caring Together (ACT).

At the event, Assurance volunteers dug out a fence post, installed trim on the kitchen cabinets, painted the ceiling in the main area, painted boards for the porch, touched up paint in the bathroom, filled cement pillars for the porch, installed fascia and replaced rotted boards. As a result, the home is still on track to be sold to a partner family on June 29.

“It was great to learn more about what Habitat does for the community and their process for building and supplying homes to local families,” said Maggie Cebular, Account Manager at Assurance. Julie Sartori, Private Insurance Account Manager, added, “It was interesting to work on a home near final completion this year, compared to starting a home last year. Seeing the different stages gives you a great perspective and appreciation for Habitat and its mission.”

Under the motto “We Can Be Heroes”, Assurance employees have donated over 14,500 labor hours in a nine year span through volunteer opportunities organized by ACT. If you or your business would like to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, Northern Fox Valley, please visit http://www.habitatnfv.org/.
