Schaumburg, IL (June 9, 2014) - Assurance, an independent insurance brokerage with offices near Chicago and St. Louis, continued its commitment to giving on June 5, 2014, when several employees spent their work day volunteering with WINGS. Assurance has assisted the organization in past years through labor efforts and clothing drives.

WINGS helps homeless and abused women and children by offering integrated services for shelter, education, guidance and support. The organization provides safe, secure living environments – through transitional housing and emergency shelter – in residential neighborhoods that allow women to go to school, work, and achieve financial and emotional independence. WINGS receives an average of 300 calls per month from people of all ethnic backgrounds and ages and touches the lives of hundreds of families each year with direct services, information and referrals.

The volunteer opportunity is one of 18 similar events scheduled for 2014, where Assurance employees will donate their time to deserving nonprofit organizations. All volunteer days are organized by the company’s employee-driven charitable foundation, Assurance Caring Together (ACT).

At the event, Assurance volunteers cleaned one of the safe houses from top to bottom, including walls, floors, the kitchen, living room, basement and play areas. Several volunteers even sealed a large deck and playground for children. Additionally, the group planted flowers, tomatoes, onions, garlic, peppers and cucumbers.

“I really enjoyed this ACT event and the amazing cause that WINGS fights for everyday,” said Lakia Smith, Account Manager/Supervisor at Assurance. She continued,“I hope we’re able to continue the partnership next year and help make a difference for women and children in the area.”

Under the motto “We Can Be Heroes”, Assurance employees have donated over 14,500 labor hours in a nine year span through volunteer opportunities organized by ACT. If you or your business would like to volunteer with WINGS, please visit www.wingsprogram.com.
