SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (May 4, 2015) – On Saturday, May 2, over 230 Assurance employees and their family members came together at Schaumburg District 54 Professional Learning Center to “Step Up and ACT”. The event – which featured raffle prizes, indoor games, music and food – served a dual purpose as the kick off to the company’s charitable endeavors for the year and a fundraiser within itself.

Assurance Caring Together (ACT) is a volunteer committee of employees who coordinate the company’s charitable donations. Each year, ACT supports a number of nonprofit organizations through monetary and volunteer efforts.  

At the Step Up and ACT event, ACT chairperson Rachel Rodakowski and vice chairperson Jordan Ready announced the 17 nonprofit organizations that will receive assistance in the form of labor hours from Assurance employees this year. To ensure participation, Assurance provides employees with a paid day off to volunteer. The duo also read off 26 additional nonprofit partners that will receive monetary donations from the 1% operating profit Assurance designates towards this cause.

Employees and their guests vied for 29 different raffle prizes, including a Cayman Islands Getaway and two night stay in Fontana, Wisconsin. The raffles raised $10,270 for student scholarships and over 300 donated items of food/non-perishables for the Schaumburg District 54 Closet and Food Pantry.

“The Step Up and ACT event was a great way for Assurance employees and their families to gather in support of local charities and higher education,” noted Rodakowski. She continued, “This event served as a kickoff to our employee volunteer opportunities for 2015, in which we hope to add onto our more than 17,000 hours of community service.”

The monetary partners for 2015 include: 100% Foundation, Almost Home Kids, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Aunt Martha’s Youth Service, Bernie’s Book Bank, Bucks for Burn Camp, Cancer Support Center, Christopher House, Community Crisis Center of Elgin, CURED, HAVE DREAMS, Honor Flight Chicago, Individual Advocacy Group, K9s for Warriors, Kids Fit Foundation, Little City Foundation, Make-A-Wish Missouri Chapter, Mutual Ground, Northwest Community Healthcare Foundation, One Tail at a Time, Schaumburg District 54 Community Closet & Food Pantry, Shelter Inc., Special Camps, TKEN, WINGS and YWCA Metropolitan Chicago.

Assurance employees will volunteer their time with the following partners: Animal House Shelter, Aspire, Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind, Chicago Special Olympics, Clearbrook, Community Crisis Center of Elgin, Friends of Busse Woods, Gigi’s Playhouse, Journeys on the Road Home, Little City Foundation, Northern Illinois Food Bank, One Tail at a Time, Safe Humane Chicago, Special Spaces, St. Louis Area Foodbank, Western DuPage Special Recreation Association and WINGS.
